2008 Runway Oscar de la Renta Strapless Ruffle Tiered Dress

£795.00
This playful, runway documented dress is by Oscar de la Renta, from the Pre Fall 2008 collection. The dress is constructed with a brightly printed silk, featuring red, pink, green, blue and white flowers in a striking, almost abstract design. The bodice is fitted and intricately boned on the inside with inbuilt, underwired cups for extra bust support. The dress fastens at the back with a central zip, finished with a hook and eye closure at the top. The skirt portion flares out from just above the hip point and is comprised of layers of silk ruffles, interspersed with an unusual black vinyl detail - the same ruffle detail can be found as a trim around the top of the bodice. The dress is lined throughout in black mesh, and has a lovely black tulle underskirt to add extra volume and movement.

The bold floral print of this dress featured prominently in the collection, appearing right at the start and in many other subsequent designs. This piece is also the exact one worn on the runway by the model, as shown in the above photo, and is listed as Look 41 of 63 in the Vogue archives. It is in fabulous vintage condition, with no faults or stains to note. It is labelled a US 4, and is a generous fit up to a size 10 UK, or 6 US in our estimation.

What is archival fashion?

Archival fashion refers to historically significant designer garments preserved for their cultural, aesthetic, or technical importance. At Circa, archival fashion includes couture archive pieces, runway garments, early designer work, and museum-quality vintage that document the evolution of fashion history.

How is archival fashion different from vintage?

While vintage typically describes clothing over 20 years old, archival vintage is selected for its rarity, provenance, and relevance to a designer’s archive or fashion history. Circa specialises in archival pieces rather than general vintage.
