1999 Ungaro Haute Couture Green Floral Embroidered Cami Top and Skirt

£7,500.00

This beautiful three-piece ensemble was designed by Emanuel Ungaro for his Spring 1999 haute couture collection.

Composed of a sleeveless top, belt and maxi-skirt, the ensemble has a whimsical, floaty feel. The level of workmanship and composition of different tonal fabrics is stunning. The v-neck cami top is a pale moss-green silk chiffon overlaid with mesh, and the skirt is composed of a maxi-length lace skirt overlaid with a shorter layer of tonal silk chiffon. The fabric is embroidered with shimmering metallic vines, lilac ombre-petalled florals and purple forget-me-not flowers. Sage green and metallic silver applique ferns are scattered across the top. The hems of the top and the skirt are detailed with an assortment of beads in earth tones, glistening like stones at the bottom of a rock pool. The belt is composed of multiple strings of beads, to mirror those which trim the top and skirt. The top fastens under the left arm with a tonal zip and the skirt fastens at the left hip with a hidden zip and hook-and-eye clasps.

This ensemble is in excellent archival vintage condition with no issues any any note. Due to being couture made, it has no size or composition labels and is best suited to a UK 8-10 or US 4-6 with a slim waist. Our model is a UK 6-8 US 2-4, the top was quite roomy on her and the skirt sat on her low waist. She is 5' 4" (163 cm) and the skirt was a little long on her when worn low waisted.

Notes on Designer: Emanuel Ungaro founded his Paris fashion house in 1965 after training under Cristóbal Balenciaga and André Courrèges. Combining Balenciaga's emphasis on craftsmanship with a more expressive use of colour and pattern, Ungaro became renowned for his vibrant floral prints, luxurious fabrics and expert draping. By the 1980s, his glamorous, feminine designs had made the house one of the most recognisable names in French fashion.

What is archival fashion?

Archival fashion refers to historically significant designer garments preserved for their cultural, aesthetic, or technical importance. At Circa, archival fashion includes couture archive pieces, runway garments, early designer work, and museum-quality vintage that document the evolution of fashion history.

How is archival fashion different from vintage?

While vintage typically describes clothing over 20 years old, archival vintage is selected for its rarity, provenance, and relevance to a designer’s archive or fashion history. Circa specialises in archival pieces rather than general vintage.
