This exquisite vintage 1930s black silk devore velvet evening dress is delicate and gamine with intricate tailoring and construction. The fine velvet fabric has a gentle linear wave pattern, which the designer has used to create structure in the bodice by altering the direction of the surface texture. The tailoring in the bodice is created using symmetrically placed panels of fabric that separate the curve of each breast to a flattering effect. Fine piped seams inside the thick silk lining of the bodice are used to sculpt the bust creating sunburst gathers at the centre. The sweetheart neckline has a pretty upward facing rushed trim and spaghetti thin ribbon straps add to the feminine charm. The front of the flared skirt comes to just below the knee, whilst the reverse is tapered into a curved train that meets the ankle, with a 2 inch rushed velvet trim at the hem to add weight to the fabric. A series of popper fastenings run down the left side of the bodice under the breast and continues down the left of the hip. The piece is in beautiful vintage condition and it is worthy of note that the measurements are very petite indeed and would therefore best suit US size 0, UK size 4 - 6.
