The first thing you notice about this 1950s Ann Gerrard couture made dress is the wonderful russet orange colour satin fabric. This is the first time we have ever seen a dress made from this unusual colour in satin fabric and it has the most wonderful details. The dress charms with its scooped neck embellished with bugle beads, rocaille beads, pearls and studded crystals. The 3-dimensional flowers are appliqued around the neckline. The dress is princess seamed and flows into a straight skirt that has a mermaid flare towards the bottom of the hemline. The back fastening zip is original and we really love the little detail whereby one of the flower petals is folded over to conceal the fastening at the top of the neck. It is lined in matching acetate fabric and with the couture label of Ann Gerrard of 27 Bruton Street. This sateen fabric is notoriously prone to blemishes and marks from age; however, this dress has escaped harsh wear and is in really excellent vintage condition for its age, with just one or two very minor blemishes that cannot be seen when worn. The dress is small around the waistline and will best fit a UK size 6 to 8.
