ARCHIVE - 1950s Gold Pleated Bodice Silk Cocktail Dress with Bow Detail

£0.00 Sold out
1950s gold satin cocktail dress With pleated bodice. A highly desirable original 1950s gold silk satin cocktail dress in very good vintage condition. The fabric is a beautiful gold colored silk satin and the dress features a beautifully pleated bodice with an asymmetric bow with long ribbons that fall below the waist line. The unusual straps begin at the front of the pleated bodice and arrive on the shoulders to form vertical straps. The skirt is made up of aligned panels which flare and give the dress body and shape.

We have photographed this dress without a petticoat. The dress is in very good vintage condition but we have noted the following; there is slight fraying under the arms on the dress (we have done our best to address this fault) and although minor of nature it cannot be reversed but could easily be folded over further if desired. It is not noticeable when worn. There are also one or two very small holes in the fabric no bigger than a pinprick. The dress is in very fresh, clean condition with no marks. It is unusual to find a dress of this age that has not been stained in some way. Overall the dress presents very nicely and is priced with these minor issues in mind. It is unlabelled and would fit a UK size 6-8.

What is archival fashion?

Archival fashion refers to historically significant designer garments preserved for their cultural, aesthetic, or technical importance. At Circa, archival fashion includes couture archive pieces, runway garments, early designer work, and museum-quality vintage that document the evolution of fashion history.

How is archival fashion different from vintage?

While vintage typically describes clothing over 20 years old, archival vintage is selected for its rarity, provenance, and relevance to a designer’s archive or fashion history. Circa specialises in archival pieces rather than general vintage.
