1950s Mitchel Maer for Christian Dior Silver Rhinestone Flower Brooch
products.product.pickup_availability.unavailable
This 1950s large floral brooch by Mitchel Maer for Christian Dior has an articulated flower, with the central layer of petals rotating as the wearer moves. A long, slender stalk leads to the elaborate flower head, built from three separate, layered pieces of silver-toned metal set with small rhinestones. The layered construction gives the flower depth, and at three inches long, it is a substantial piece. On the reverse, a plaque reads “Mitchel Maer for Christian Dior”, and a long C-clasp provides the fastening.
Mitchel Maer created exquisite jewellery for Dior’s London branch during a short association between 1952 and 1956. An American working in England, he produced these pieces while Monsieur Dior himself was still at the head of the house and personally approving the designs. Early Maer for Dior jewellery is among the most sought-after by collectors, and the moving petals on this brooch are a particularly good example of the ingenuity behind his work.
The brooch is in excellent vintage condition, with no missing stones or tarnish.

What is archival fashion?
Archival fashion refers to historically significant designer garments preserved for their cultural, aesthetic, or technical importance. At Circa, archival fashion includes couture archive pieces, runway garments, early designer work, and museum-quality vintage that document the evolution of fashion history.
How is archival fashion different from vintage?
While vintage typically describes clothing over 20 years old, archival vintage is selected for its rarity, provenance, and relevance to a designer’s archive or fashion history. Circa specialises in archival pieces rather than general vintage.
