PRODUCT DETAILS
This 1960s black velvet cocktail dress with gold lamé bodice and bow detail is simple and chic in excellent vintage condition. The character Betty Draper wore a near identical version in the hit TV series Madmen. The dress is sleeveless with a V neckline at both front and reverse. There is a tiny but suggestive V insert at the centre of the neckline at the front, and the bodice is expertly structured to bring each breast to a 50s style point. The thick gold lamé fabric on the bodice is embossed with a paisley design and embroidered with flowers in white cotton, and pale pink and blue metallic thread. The main design feature is a large bow that presents diagonally and fuses the gold lame with the rich black velvet of the skirt, consolidating the contrasting fabrics to perfection. The straight cut skirt has single forward facing folded pleats on either side of the hip and finishes just below the knee. There is a central zip fastening at the reverse. Unlabelled, this vivacious little dress would fit up to US size 4, UK size 8.
