Original late 1960s or early 1970s hand painted block print Indian skirt in pristine vintage condition. This is an authentic and sort after original example of early boho or hippie fashion which has been carefully stored for nearly 50 years. The skirt is made up of various paisley panels interspersed with stylised and dotted hearts and flowers. The colours are rich earth tones of blue, yellow, red, green and ochre. The skirt is lined in a bright orange silky rayon and has a simple waist band with tie fastening and one hook and eye. The skirt is floor length and both the layers together have a pleasing weight to them. It is of a better quality than most of the Indian produced items of this time and was almost certainly made for the export market. Many top designers imported these fashionable garments during this period and the label simply reads 100% cotton, Made in India. The colours are extremely fresh and bright and the piece has a textual feel with the block print painted with a matt gold overlay. Labelled a size medium, this is slightly smaller measured against modern sizing and will fit up to a UK size 10 or US 6.
