1970s Halston Black Label Couture Jersey Dress

£995.00
An absolutely superb and collectable Halston black label couture 1970s goddess dress. Halston clearly took inspiration from an earlier era and the has elements of 1940s and 1950s fashion. It is impeccably made with a lavish amount of pleating, ruching and draping of the wonderful fluid silk jersey fabric. This extends to the low crossover bust which folds delicately over the gathered wide waistband. The dress is a crossover skirt in a tulip shape. What is most remarkable about this dress is the phenomenal pleated cape that falls from the top of the shoulders. It has just the most stunning draping that covers the top of the arms but allows you full use of them too. Halston didn't stop there and behind the back fastening zip, the dress has a wide internal waist shaper or waspie to nip the waist in. The dress is made from three layers of silk jersey ensuring that the dress has the desired weighted effect and fluidity of movement. It could be worn with or without further undergarments.

The dress is in beautiful vintage condition and presents extremely well. It has the American union label at the bottom of the zip and another manufacturing ticket with the name Marg - perhaps she made the dress! On careful inspection we notice a handful of small breaks in the jersey away from the front of the dress. Most of these are absolutely minuscule and barely bigger than a pinhead but there is one that is around 4 millimetres. Because the dress is triple layered it is very difficult to see this blemish and it's virtually impossible to detect when worn. There are no other issues with the dress and it really is a rare piece of fashion history. The sizing label has been cut out but we estimate this is a best fit for size UK 6 - 8 or US 2 - 4.

F.A.Q.

Will you set anything aside for me before I come?

We are happy to find anything you may be interested in from our website - please let us know a week in advance.

We also have an extensive offline collection. If you let us know your size, style, favourite colour to wear and perhaps your budget, we can browse through our archive in advance of your appointment.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

Clients may wish to bring modern shapewear when trying on garments from certain eras, especially the 1950s. Vintage clothing was often worn with undergarments that shaped the waist and as such is tailored for them.

We have a huge variety of slip dresses and petticoats to complete your look; many of which are also for sale.

You may also wish to bring your favourite footwear. We often find a classic pair of nude shoes work well when trying on, or a pair in gold or silver.

Do you have a price range?

Many of our lower-priced pieces (under £150) are not available to buy online. Our prices range from £80 - £600 for separates. Dresses start at around £150 and go up to £2,500 for the very best antique pieces and designer vintage. Our bridalwear ranges from £300 - £3,000.

Can I bring anyone with me?

Yes but please do let us know the size of your party in advance.

Where can I get alterations?
