ARCHIVE- 1970s Ted Lapidus Lemon Yellow Pleated Chiffon Dress

£0.00 Sold out
Few can claim to share the standards of renowned French couturier Ted Lapidus. This dress is made of a yellow silk crepe with the most superbly executed knife pleats and an elegant sleeveless deep V neck design with a high empire waist. This beautiful creation has three sheer layers as the skirt. The top layer falls in vertical pleats from the waist band, whilst the bodice pleats cross diagonally to draw more attention to the waist and décolleté. The deep V shape is echoed on the reverse of the dress. For access, the cross over bodice is front fastening with diagonal poppers that overlap with hook and eyes at the waistband for access. This dress is in excellent vintage condition. We would describe as gently used with little signs of wear. It will come to just above the ankle and is quite petite overall. Would best fit UK size 6-8 US size 2-4.

Ted Lapidus was a revered designer who began his long fashion career at the House of Dior and went on to start his own label in 1951. Particularly noted for his stylish 1970s daywear pieces as well as for his unisex style of dressing, he also introduced military and safari looks into haute couture. His creations were worn by leading French stars of the day including Brigette Bardot and Francoise Hardy. Another noteworthy fashion addition was his use of blue jeans making them part of mainstream of fashion design. He can claim to have been the first designer to persuade Twiggy to wear a suit and tie rather than a mini skirt.

Will you set anything aside for me before I come?

We are happy to find anything you may be interested in from our website - please let us know a week in advance.

We also have an extensive offline collection. If you let us know your size, style, favourite colour to wear and perhaps your budget, we can browse through our archive in advance of your appointment.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

Clients may wish to bring modern shapewear when trying on garments from certain eras, especially the 1950s. Vintage clothing was often worn with undergarments that shaped the waist and as such is tailored for them.

We have a huge variety of slip dresses and petticoats to complete your look; many of which are also for sale.

You may also wish to bring your favourite footwear. We often find a classic pair of nude shoes work well when trying on, or a pair in gold or silver.

Do you have a price range?

Many of our lower-priced pieces (under £150) are not available to buy online. Our prices range from £80 - £600 for separates. Dresses start at around £150 and go up to £2,500 for the very best antique pieces and designer vintage. Our bridalwear ranges from £300 - £3,000.
