1970s Odette Barsa Cream Slip Dress with Lace and Ribbon Overlay Coat

£650.00

This incredible trousseau ensemble would make a wonderful wedding look for an unconventional, 1970s-loving bride. It was designed by Syrian-born American lingerie designer Odette Barsa. The slip is tailored from rich cream satin and has a classic empire-line cut and gathered bust. There is a small floppy bow in the centre of the bust. The wide, strappy sleeves are crafted from tonal cream lace. The slip is unlined. The long robe-style coat is tailored entirely from cream lace. From the waist up, the lace is smocked and elasticated. Below the waist, a double layer of lace is patterned with bows and ribbons with scallop edging. The bottom hem is detailed with a pretty lace trim. The sleeves are cut to a bell-sleeved shape with gathered cuffs threaded with cream grosgrain ribbon and trimmed with ruffled lace. The neckline is also threaded with cream grosgrain ribbon, which culminates in two bows where this ribbon hits the waist.

This ensemble is in very good to excellent vintage condition, especially as it is over 50 years of age. Please note, there are a few tiny pulls across the satin of the slip - barely noticeable and less than 0.5 cm in width. There are no size or composition labels so please check our measurements below carefully as the fabric has no stretch. Our model's sizes are: Bust: 31" (80cm), Waist: 25" (64cm), Hips: 34" (87cm) and Height: 5' 4" (164cm). She's a size UK 6, US 2 and this fit her well with room to spare in the waist and hip. It should work also for a size UK 8 or US 4.

What is archival fashion?

Archival fashion refers to historically significant designer garments preserved for their cultural, aesthetic, or technical importance. At Circa, archival fashion includes couture archive pieces, runway garments, early designer work, and museum-quality vintage that document the evolution of fashion history.

How is archival fashion different from vintage?

While vintage typically describes clothing over 20 years old, archival vintage is selected for its rarity, provenance, and relevance to a designer’s archive or fashion history. Circa specialises in archival pieces rather than general vintage.
