1986 Ungaro Documented Parallele Floral and Lamé Skirt
This documented Emanuel Ungaro skirt was designed for Parallèle, the house’s high-end ready-to-wear line and the exact print and design features in the Look Book photographs for Ungaro’s Autumn/Winter 1986 collection.
Crafted from soft, smooth wool, the skirt features painterly florals in a rich, autumnal rainbow of colours against a black background. Metallic gold lamé polka dots are scattered across the surface, adding lustre to the densely patterned fabric. The skirt sits high on the waist, with a slim waistband fastening at the left hip with a black zip and an ornamental black and gold button. Cut in a column shape through the hips and upper thigh, it opens into a softly pleated lower section that adds movement to the silhouette. It is fully lined in black satin.
The jacket paired with this skirt in the collection’s original Look Book is also available from Circa in a separate listing, offering the opportunity to recreate the original ensemble. This listing is for the skirt only which is in excellent vintage condition and has no issues of any note. There are no size or composition labels, and the fabric has no stretch. The measurements relate to a size extra small and this is best suited for a UK 6-8 or US 2.
Notes on Designer: Emanuel Ungaro established his Paris couture house in 1965 after training under Cristóbal Balenciaga. His command of cut and drape was matched by a distinctive approach to colour and pattern, combining florals, polka dots and contrasting prints with considerable assurance. The 1980s were a particularly strong period for the house, with richly draped dresses and precisely shaped jackets capturing the decade’s taste for confident, sensual dressing. His clientele included Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Catherine Deneuve and Anouk Aimée.

What is archival fashion?
Archival fashion refers to historically significant designer garments preserved for their cultural, aesthetic, or technical importance. At Circa, archival fashion includes couture archive pieces, runway garments, early designer work, and museum-quality vintage that document the evolution of fashion history.
How is archival fashion different from vintage?
While vintage typically describes clothing over 20 years old, archival vintage is selected for its rarity, provenance, and relevance to a designer’s archive or fashion history. Circa specialises in archival pieces rather than general vintage.
