ARCHIVE - 1990s John Galliano Black Lycra Asymmetric Unisex Top
This is a rare and early design from the Avant Garde fashion legend that is John Galliano. This large black label piece has the Made in Britain label which was used for a few years in the early 90s prior to the manufacture of the clothing line moving to France. This is an extremely unusual cut with the sleeve placement completely offset against the straight cut top which is fashioned from just two pieces of lycra. The top is seamed at the sides and on the shoulders. Condition wise this is excellent and the fabric retains all its elasticity. There are no holes or abrasions in the fabric. There is a small sizing label on the side seam indicating that this is a USA size 6 / UK size 10 or European 36. The composition label reads 92% nylon 8% elastane and indicates a hand wash. John Galliano pieces such as this are rare to the market and this is an interesting piece as it could be worn by either a man or a woman.

What is archival fashion?
Archival fashion refers to historically significant designer garments preserved for their cultural, aesthetic, or technical importance. At Circa, archival fashion includes couture archive pieces, runway garments, early designer work, and museum-quality vintage that document the evolution of fashion history.
How is archival fashion different from vintage?
While vintage typically describes clothing over 20 years old, archival vintage is selected for its rarity, provenance, and relevance to a designer’s archive or fashion history. Circa specialises in archival pieces rather than general vintage.
