Kenneth Jay Lane began his career in the Art Department at US Vogue. He was briefly designing jewellery for Hattie Carnegie and shoes at Roger Vivier, Christian Dior, Bill Blass, Norman Norell and Arnold Scaasi. Whilst working for a particular show he creating earrings and bracelets that matched the shoes which were a runaway success. Kenneth began selling his owned quality costume jewellery in 1963 to Saks Fifth Avenue. His early pieces were often copies of real high end jewellery and he gained a following that included Jackie Kennedy, Liz Taylor and Audrey Hepburn. He received the Coty Award for Jewellery Design in 1966 and the Swarovski Award in 1969.
