1990s Stanley Hagler Large White and Red Flower Brooch

£550.00

This large 1990s Stanley Hagler floral brooch is a real head-turner. It was most likely designed by Ian St. Gielar who worked for the brand for many years as a master craftsman before taking over the business. The petals are crafted from pearlescent resin. Atop these, in the centre of the brooch, sit elaborate forms built from gold-tone metal, red resin spheres and tiny red beads worked in gold brass wire. The rear of the brooch features a circle of gold metal filigree which is elaborately carved and detailed with fan-like forms. On this sits a long clasp which is secured with a C-clasp, alongside a gold plaque that is engraved with the words, “STANLEY HAGLER N.Y.C.” dating this piece from 1996, after Hagler's death, until 2007 when St. Gielar passed.

This brooch is in excellent vintage condition with only a tiny bit of wear to the gold on the logo plaque.

Notes on Designer:

Stanley Hagler was born in Denver, Colorado in 1923 and whilst working as Miriam Haskell’s business advisor in the late 1940s, designed a bracelet for Wallace Simpson, the Duchess of Windsor who had a passion for costume jewellery with exquisitely elaborate and bold designs. By 1953, the Stanley Hagler Jewelry Co. was founded in New York City’s Greenwich Village and the collections were retailed in the finest department stores. By the early 1980s, the business moved to Florida. His work is comparable in quality to Miriam Haskell whose designs he often emulated and of the other 'Haskell look' designers such as Eugene, DeMario, and Robert.
