1996 Thierry Mugler Runway Brown Prince of Wales Check 3-Piece Suit
This Thierry Mugler 3-piece silk skirt suit walked the runway for his Spring 1996 collection. It is tailored to the defined contours that exemplified the designer's work throughout this era. The peplum-shaped suit jacket with shoulder pads draws in the waist and adds volume around the hips, emphasising and highlighting the feminine figure. The jacket has an asymmetric hem with a raised front and lower back. The front hem has two turned-up areas which sit like shallow pockets. The collar echoes this shape and curves from a raised collar behind the neck down into the lapels at the front. The fabric is an unusual pale brown and champagne Prince of Wales checked silk. The front is closed with two fabric-covered buttons which hide two snap closures and another hidden snap closure. The matching sleeveless silk top closes at the back with similar snap closures. The skirt is cut to a pencil silhouette with soft pleats. It fastens at the back with a hidden tonal zip and the signature angular tab that hides two snap closures. The jacket and skirt are lined in pale blue silk, the top is unlined. The famous pale blue label reads “Thierry Mugler Paris."
Made in France, all three pieces are in very good vintage condition and the silk has a wonderful sheen and vibrancy. Please note, the skirt has a few marks on it (see photograph) but the other two pieces are flawless. The label reads 100% Silk and the lining is 100% Silk. It is labelled a French 38 but please check our measurements closely as there is no stretch. We estimate the suit is a best fit for sizes up to a UK 8 or US 4 on account of the small waist measurement of the skirt. We also think this jacket would suit someone taller than 5'6".

What is archival fashion?
Archival fashion refers to historically significant designer garments preserved for their cultural, aesthetic, or technical importance. At Circa, archival fashion includes couture archive pieces, runway garments, early designer work, and museum-quality vintage that document the evolution of fashion history.
How is archival fashion different from vintage?
While vintage typically describes clothing over 20 years old, archival vintage is selected for its rarity, provenance, and relevance to a designer’s archive or fashion history. Circa specialises in archival pieces rather than general vintage.
