1997 Christian Dior Large Crystal Drop Earrings

£1,795.00

These rare earrings are the commercial version of the enormous earrings that were seen on the runway for Christian Dior’s Fall 1997 haute couture collection, designed by John Galliano. The jewellery was spectacularly elaborate and we've attached some the runway pictures to show you the design which sits among the grander pieces from the collection. Interestingly we thought these earrings had been from the slightly later Fall 1999 haute couture collection as very similar designs were modelled on the runway. The headpiece from this collection was worn for a shoot by Penelope Cruz for Vogue Spain, 1999.

The earrings have a drop of 3 inches and are adorned with shimmering crystals. The top of the earring forms a flower shape with a large central crystal surrounded by nine crystal petals. Leaves fall from the flower and hold a teardrop-shaped drop. Two rows of circular crystals surround a large central teardrop-shaped stone. The stones are all set into a silver-hued base metal with an organic, textured surface. The back of the earrings feature a clip-on clasp which is engraved with “Chr.Dior” and the copyright symbol. These earrings are in excellent condition with no flaws.

What is archival fashion?

Archival fashion refers to historically significant designer garments preserved for their cultural, aesthetic, or technical importance. At Circa, archival fashion includes couture archive pieces, runway garments, early designer work, and museum-quality vintage that document the evolution of fashion history.

How is archival fashion different from vintage?

While vintage typically describes clothing over 20 years old, archival vintage is selected for its rarity, provenance, and relevance to a designer’s archive or fashion history. Circa specialises in archival pieces rather than general vintage.
