2000 Runway Vivienne Westwood Gold Label Distressed Jacket & Trousers
These incredible, rare jacket and trouser ensemble were the final look at Vivienne Westwood’s 2000 show “Summertime”. The final Vivienne Westwood collection of the 20th century was marked by a bacchanalian celebration. Rife with symbolism representing Bacchus, the Roman god of agriculture, wine and fertility, signs of revelry abounded throughout the runway show. Floral prints and damp-hued fabrics were sabotaged with grass stains and red wine spillage.
This ensemble is an iconic piece of Vivienne Westwood trophy vintage and would be a great addition to the archive of any collector of this label. Made in Italy, both pieces are tailored from coated linen with a stiff, waterproof effect and a canvas-like handle. The print is taken from an Elizabethan wallpaper design. Rendered in a deep aubergine purple, it shows winding, interlaced vines and fantastical florals. Faded burgundy stains smatter the pale ecru background of the cloth, as though the wearer has spilled glass-upon-glass of red wine whilst dancing. The jacket is tailored to a long length with a nipped-in waist. The cropped panel at the back recalls riding jackets - tailored to fit around a saddle. It has a single wide lapel and in-seam pockets at the front. The jacket fastens with three gold buttons engraved with Vivienne Westwood’s instantly-recognisable Orb logo. The trousers are cut to an extra-long length and are gathered in an erratic manner at the bottom hems so that they pool at the floor around the feet in the deconstructed way that is the brand’s trademark. The waist is narrow and is secured with a hidden white zip and a logo-engraved gold button. There are slip pockets in the side seams and all of the stitching is in pale pink cotton. Both pieces are unlined.
These collectable trousers and jacket are in excellent vintage condition with no flaws. The composition label states that they are 80% Linen, 20% Viscose. The jacket is labelled a UK 12 and the trousers are labelled a size UK 10 but vintage Westwood clothing runs very small by today's standards. The fabric has no stretch. Our model is a UK 6, US 2 and 5ft 9 in. (163 cm) and these were tight on the waist.

What is archival fashion?
Archival fashion refers to historically significant designer garments preserved for their cultural, aesthetic, or technical importance. At Circa, archival fashion includes couture archive pieces, runway garments, early designer work, and museum-quality vintage that document the evolution of fashion history.
How is archival fashion different from vintage?
While vintage typically describes clothing over 20 years old, archival vintage is selected for its rarity, provenance, and relevance to a designer’s archive or fashion history. Circa specialises in archival pieces rather than general vintage.
