2008 Documented Alaia Leather Corset Skirt

£3,200.00
This documented 2008 Autumn/Winter collection skirt is by the renowned French couturier Azzedine Alaia shortly after he bought back his company from Prada in 2007. Made of black lambs leather, the skirt features a high waisted, corset style section, complete with boning effect and lace up back. The complex design features panels of vertical, tightly seamed sections alternating with sections of horizontal mini pleats. The lower skirt has unusual panier style shaping from around the hip down, creating exaggerated volume and movement when worn and emphasising the female form. Lined in polyester for comfort.

Alaia was a genius in leather design and this is one of the most intricate examples of leatherwear I've seen. It opened the collection presentation and can be viewed here: https://fondationazzedinealaia.org/en/pretaporter/hiver-2008/

The skirt is in as new and unworn condition with original tag attached. No stains or flaws to note.

Labelled a French 42, this runs very small and is better suited for up to a UK10 or US 6. We have measured this fully laced, as small as it will go, and also to the edge of the modesty panel separating the two sets of laces. It will go bigger than this but you would have to extend the modesty panel or wear black underneath to prevent skin showing through. Our model is a UK size 6-8 or US 2-4 and this fit her well too.

MEASUREMENTS (allowing for corset style closure as per images):

High Waist / Under Bust - Min 25 in. (63.5 cm) to Max 27 in. (68.6 cm)
Hip - 36 in. (91.4 cm)
Length - 25 in. (63.5 cm)

What is archival fashion?

Archival fashion refers to historically significant designer garments preserved for their cultural, aesthetic, or technical importance. At Circa, archival fashion includes couture archive pieces, runway garments, early designer work, and museum-quality vintage that document the evolution of fashion history.

How is archival fashion different from vintage?

While vintage typically describes clothing over 20 years old, archival vintage is selected for its rarity, provenance, and relevance to a designer’s archive or fashion history. Circa specialises in archival pieces rather than general vintage.
