2003 Ralph Lauren Collection Runway Pinstripe Skirt with Braces
This runway documented skirt was designed by Ralph Lauren for the Spring 2003 ready-to-wear collection. An identical skirt opened the show, worn by supermodel Natalia Vodianova with its striped braces over a crisp white shirt. It bears the purple Ralph Lauren Collection label associated with the house’s luxury womenswear and the design follows earlier interpretations of classic menswear, reworking pinstripes, tailored pencil shapes and braces into a distinctly feminine silhouette - pictured here.
Made in the USA, the skirt is tailored from substantial cream cotton worked with alternating black and grey stitched pinstripes. It has a high-waisted pencil silhouette, falling straight through the hips with a slit at the back for ease of movement. The front fastens with a concealed zip and silver-tone metal button and there are front pockets :-)
Particularly distinctive are the blue, black and cream striped braces, which attach to metal buttons inside the waistband with rich leather tabs. These have naturally aged from their original pale colour to an even cream tone. The braces can also be removed to wear the skirt as a more conventional pencil style. The skirt is beautifully finished and fully lined in cream satin woven throughout with “Ralph Lauren Collection”.
In excellent vintage condition; the cotton, lining and metalwork present beautifully; the only notable sign of age is the even mellowing of the leather brace tabs to cream, which we do not consider detrimental. Labelled a US size 2, approximately a UK 6, and 100% cotton. The fabric has no stretch so please refer to the sizing information below to ensure the best fit.

We are happy to find anything you may be interested in from our website. We have an extensive offline collection. It is helpful if you can let us know your size, style, favourite colour to wear and perhaps your budget in advance of your appointment.
Do I need to bring anything to my appointment?
Clients may wish to bring modern shapewear. You may also wish to bring favourite footwear. We often find a classic pair of nude shoes work well when trying-on, or gold and silver. We have a huge variety of slip dresses and petticoats to complete your look. Many of which are also for sale.
Do you have a price range at the showroom?
Many of our lower priced pieces, under £250, are not available to buy online. Dresses usually start at £150 and go up to £30,000 for the very best archival couture. Our bridalwear price points range from £1,000 to £20,000.
Can I bring anyone with me to my appointment?
Yes but please do let us know the size of your party in advance.
Where can I have my circa garment altered?
We offer some alterations in house. Should you need alterations we cannot provide, we can refer you to one of our tried and trusted tailors.
Does Circa have an after-care service?
We will advise you on the best way to clean and preserve your vintage purchases and can also recommend trusted local dry cleaners.
