2009 Zac Posen Runway Cream Silk Knit Dress and Cardigan Ensemble
This sensuous sheer-knit dress and coordinating jacket walked the runway as Look 29 of Zac Posen’s Spring 2009 collection. The unusual construction was singled out in Vogue’s review, which described the collection’s dresses as “Perspex-plated”, referring to the hard, iridescent elements incorporated within the knit. We are delighted to be able to offer the original ensemble which has stayed together.
Both pieces are made from a luxurious cream blend of silk, linen and cashmere. The open weave is doubled around iridescent mint-green and cream Perspex discs of varying sizes, trapping them within the knit and giving the fabric a three-dimensional, almost armoured appearance while remaining sheer. Along the hems, the larger discs create a softly scalloped outline.
The dress is cut to a sleeveless tank silhouette, closely fitted through the body before falling into a long column shape to around the knee. It is accompanied by a cream crepe slip with adjustable straps, providing coverage beneath the sheer knit; this slip was not worn with the dress on the runway.
The coordinating long jacket has a deep V-neckline and fastens at the front with chunky tubular Perspex buttons engraved with the Zac Posen logo. It is unlined, allowing the transparency and unusual construction of the knit to remain visible.
Both pieces are in excellent vintage condition. There are a few tiny snags to the knit, but these are very difficult to discern within the deliberately open weave and and cannot be seen when worn. The ensemble is labelled a size XS and best suited to approximately a US 2–4 or UK 6–8. Composed of 80% silk, 15% linen and 5% cashmere. The knit has some stretch. Please refer to the sizing information below to ensure the best fit.

What is archival fashion?
Archival fashion refers to historically significant designer garments preserved for their cultural, aesthetic, or technical importance. At Circa, archival fashion includes couture archive pieces, runway garments, early designer work, and museum-quality vintage that document the evolution of fashion history.
How is archival fashion different from vintage?
While vintage typically describes clothing over 20 years old, archival vintage is selected for its rarity, provenance, and relevance to a designer’s archive or fashion history. Circa specialises in archival pieces rather than general vintage.
