ARCHIVE - 2013 Runway Metiers d’Arts Chanel Purple Tweed Tartan Coat

£0.00 Sold out
Exceptional runway documented pre-Fall 2013 Chanel tartan coat from the Metiers d’Arts collection. Inspired by “the brutal romance of Scotland and the imagined meeting of Mary, Queen of Scots and Coco Chanel – two fashion queens,” said Karl Lagerfeld. The show was presented at Linlithgow Palace, the birthplace of Mary, Queen of Scots and this exact coat is seen here in Look 6 from the collection.

The tartan mix is a warm burgundy, indigo blue and black tweed that has been box pleated at the lower skirt to mimic the pleating arrangements of a Scottish kilt. The oversized trench design is faux double breasted with magnificent pearl and purple enamel buttons reminiscent of a shield. The button design is mirrored at the four front pockets, lapels and the cuffs. There is a sash tie belt at the waist, and it is half lined in silk.

In great pre-owned condition with no issues, the sizing tag has been removed but we feel it best corresponds to a French 40, US 8 or UK 12. The Circa team has all tried this on and in our opinion, unless you are tall, this is too large for UK size 8, or US 4 and below. It’s a great fit from UK size 10, US 6 upwards and will comfortably go to a UK 16 or US 12. A long trench coat from Chanel is close to £12,000 new and our client recalls that this was over £10,000 when purchased. A great investment purchase from a renowned collection.

What is archival fashion?

Archival fashion refers to historically significant designer garments preserved for their cultural, aesthetic, or technical importance. At Circa, archival fashion includes couture archive pieces, runway garments, early designer work, and museum-quality vintage that document the evolution of fashion history.

How is archival fashion different from vintage?

While vintage typically describes clothing over 20 years old, archival vintage is selected for its rarity, provenance, and relevance to a designer’s archive or fashion history. Circa specialises in archival pieces rather than general vintage.
