2011 Dolce & Gabbana Floral Cotton Dress and Jacket Ensemble
This floral printed dress and jacket ensemble was created by Dolce & Gabbana for its Cruise 2011 collection. Painterly florals and roses have been recurring motifs for the Italian house since the 1990s, frequently applied to the overtly feminine cinched silhouettes for which Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana became renowned. The final image shown is taken from the design duo’s Cruise 2011 look book.
Both pieces are tailored from substantial cream cotton printed with softly blurred flowers in deep teal and chocolate brown. The weight and quality of the fabric give the ensemble considerable structure while retaining the richness of the painterly print. The dress is cut to a classic D&G bombshell silhouette, with a fitted waist, ruched push-up bust and rounded tulip skirt. Its elaborate internal construction is particularly impressive: the bodice is boned through the bust and waist and finished internally with tonal grosgrain ribbon, while the dress is lined in luxurious champagne silk. It fastens at the back with a concealed zip, logo-engraved zip pull and hook-and-eye. The coordinating jacket has a straight, elegant silhouette with a neat collar and three-quarter-length sleeves, particularly good for showing off jewellery. It fastens discreetly with concealed snaps and has angled flap pockets at the hips. The jacket is also fully lined in champagne silk.
The ensemble is in excellent vintage condition and shows no evidence of alteration. There are a few scuffs to the silk lining in the dress but these cannot be seen when worn. Both pieces are 100% cotton with a lining of 96% silk and 4% elastane. The jacket is labelled an Italian size 38, nominally a UK 6 or US 2, although it is generously cut. The dress has lost its size label, but its measurements correspond more closely to approximately a UK 8 or US 4. Taken together, we believe the ensemble is best suited to a UK 8 or US 4. The proportions are relatively petite, particularly through the torso and overall length, and we think the set would work especially well on someone around 5ft 3in or under. Please refer to the individual measurements below to ensure the best fit.

What is archival fashion?
Archival fashion refers to historically significant designer garments preserved for their cultural, aesthetic, or technical importance. At Circa, archival fashion includes couture archive pieces, runway garments, early designer work, and museum-quality vintage that document the evolution of fashion history.
How is archival fashion different from vintage?
While vintage typically describes clothing over 20 years old, archival vintage is selected for its rarity, provenance, and relevance to a designer’s archive or fashion history. Circa specialises in archival pieces rather than general vintage.
