2013 Jean Paul Gaultier Runway Documented Silk Floral Print Dress

£1,250.00

Designed by Jean Paul Gaultier for the S/S 2013 collection, a slightly longer version of this dress was Look 18 on the runway in a pale blue colourway, the assemblage representing the singer Boy George. The show was an elaborate homage to all the pop stars of the 1980s. Undoubtably the star of the show; Vogue singled out this design as a "gorgeous and witty piece - the Orientalism of a pleated A-line bustier gown."

The flowing dress is tailored from elaborately printed silk. A highly wearable take on the French label’s trademark vibrant prints, it is designed to be worn in a laid-back strapless manner. The wide band at the bust is crafted from rainbow bands of grosgrain ribbon interspersed with metallic silver leather. The body of the dress is crafted from silk with alternating satin shine and sheer stripes. It has an all-over ombré effect which fades through orange, peach and white and is printed with bold graphic florals. The bottom is tailored to a fishtail silhouette with an asymmetric handkerchief hem which kicks out around the wearer as they walk. It fastens under the arm with a hidden orange zip and is lined in gold rayon.

This piece is presented in excellent vintage condition with no flaws - the perfect addition to your Gaultier archive. The label reads “Jean Paul Gaultier FEMME”. The outer fabric is 100% Silk and the lining is 100% Rayon. It is labelled a UK 10, Italian 42, French 38 but sizes can vary between brands so please check our measurements closely. There is no stretch to the fabric. Our model is a UK 8-10 and 5ft 11in (180cm) and this piece fit her snugly at the bust. Of note the dress can be worn as a maxi skirt by sizes bigger and if the wearer is tall!

What is archival fashion?

Archival fashion refers to historically significant designer garments preserved for their cultural, aesthetic, or technical importance. At Circa, archival fashion includes couture archive pieces, runway garments, early designer work, and museum-quality vintage that document the evolution of fashion history.

How is archival fashion different from vintage?

While vintage typically describes clothing over 20 years old, archival vintage is selected for its rarity, provenance, and relevance to a designer’s archive or fashion history. Circa specialises in archival pieces rather than general vintage.
