1994 Yves Saint Laurent Red Carnation Print Dress

A notable dress from a design icon, Yves Saint Laurent, when he was still at the helm of his eponymous fashion house. This dress has its origins in the autumn/winter 94 - 95 ready to wear collection where this black and red carnation print was the standout and featured in many of the designs. The dress, entirely made in France, has the ready to wear label "Rive Gauche" and is a deceptively simple design. I've studied the runway clips carefully and it appears that this is the commercial version of the dress, blending both of the styles featured on the runway. It has the wide scoop neck and fitted look of the first but with the addition of a ruffle trimmed collar. The ruffle is wider at the back and tapers as it comes around to the front. It's narrowest point is where the top of the first button is. The sleeves are elbow length with discreet tapering in keeping with the fitted look. The dress fastens to the front with stylised black glass facetted buttons. The skirt is slightly tapered towards the knee. There is no fabric composition label but we believe this is silk or an extremely good manmade version. The dress is not lined. It's such a great example of day wear that could equally be styled up for the evening and that print!! What more can we say :-)

In excellent vintage condition with no faults of note that I can see. It is marked a French 34 and this equates to a US size 2 or UK size 6. Our model is a UK size 6-8 so there is some flexibility.

Will you set anything aside for me before I come?

We are happy to find anything you may be interested in from our website - please let us know a week in advance.

We also have an extensive offline collection. If you let us know your size, style, favourite colour to wear and perhaps your budget, we can browse through our archive in advance of your appointment.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

Clients may wish to bring modern shapewear when trying on garments from certain eras, especially the 1950s. Vintage clothing was often worn with undergarments that shaped the waist and as such is tailored for them.

We have a huge variety of slip dresses and petticoats to complete your look; many of which are also for sale.

You may also wish to bring your favourite footwear. We often find a classic pair of nude shoes work well when trying on, or a pair in gold or silver.

Do you have a price range?

Many of our lower-priced pieces (under £150) are not available to buy online. Our prices range from £80 - £600 for separates. Dresses start at around £150 and go up to £2,500 for the very best antique pieces and designer vintage. Our bridalwear ranges from £300 - £3,000.

Can I bring anyone with me?
